What alternatives can I use instead of Canadian long numbers?
Canadian mobile carriers have increased the enforcement of strict filtering on A2P messages, which has resulted in more blocked messages.
The recommendation for reliable delivery to Canadian numbers is to use either a Short Code or a Toll-Free Number (TFN). The throughput and reliability for both are great. Both options have strict guidelines on allowable traffic, with strong codes of conduct and penalties for non-compliant behavior.
Canadian Short Codes
These 5- to 6-digit short codes have extremely good throughput and excellent reliability; however, they have expensive setup and monthly fees. This is in part because each request for a Canadian Short Code is reviewed and vetted in detail (taking about 6-8 weeks in total). To apply for a Canadian short code, log in to the Clickatell Portal, and go to the “Long Numbers and Short Codes” section.

Toll-Free Numbers (TFNs)
Toll-free numbers have good message throughputs and are cost-effective to set up and operate. Each request for a TFN requires an application form to be completed. This is submitted to the regulatory authorities (with the relevant information and supplementary information), and after about 30 days, the TFN will be enabled for use, subject to strict compliance regulations.
