What are country-specific SMS regulations?

Clickatell has recognized a shift in the business-to-customer messaging environment, with more message-sending regulations introduced in many territories and countries. Non-compliance with these restrictions may lead to non-delivery of messages, which is why you need to familiarize yourself with the terms applicable to the relevant territories.

Regulations typically pertain to the following:

  • Time of day that messages may be delivered.

  • Content of the messages.

  • Format of the Sender ID (from address) that may be used. Carriers in certain countries will block SMS messages sent from phone number formats they do not recognize or support. To help ensure that your messages are delivered, the from address of a message may be replaced with a format that will be accepted by the carrier of the mobile device.

Read more about Sender ID restrictions and review specific regulations for each country we support message sending to.
